Welcome to the Albany music page. I am Mrs.
Eichhorn and I would like to share some information with you
about all of the exciting experiences that your students are
having in the music classroom and beyond.
Students in grades K-5 have music class two times per week
for 30 minutes.
Musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, form of musical pieces
and dynamics, to name a few, are learned through movement,
creating, singing, listening, and instrument activities. Starting
in kindergarten, students begin learning the basic concepts of
pitch and rhythm. This is continued all the way through 5th grade.
Students in 4th and 5th grade learn to play recorders. A favored part of
music class is "performance time" when students prepare piano
pieces, guitar selections, or songs and dances to perform for
the class.
From time to time, we have special music performances presented
for the students. For example, each year we have a string quartet
come to Albany Elementary from the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and
perform for us. In addition, 4th and 5th grade students travel to
Emens Auditorium in the spring to hear the Muncie Symphony
Orchestra in a live performance.
Albany Elementary Choir
Albany Elementary offers an extra-curricular choir composed
of 4th and 5th grade students, which meet Thursday afternoons
from 2:30 to 3:30. The choir
typically has around 5 performances per year.
Circle the State with Song (CSWS):
CSWS is an event sponsored by the Indiana Music Educators
Association (IMEA) each year. This is a neat opportunity for 4th
and 5th grade students to study and prepare choral literature,
which is selected by IMEA and perform it on a Saturday in
February with other students from East Central Indiana. Students
must audition for this group.
