Title I is an in-class or pull-out program (as needed), to give
at-risk students supplemental instruction in reading and
reading-related areas as well as mathematics. The instructional assistants give more
individualized attention to the students and their needs, and
build self-esteem and confidence. All supplemental instruction is
directed by the classroom teachers, and supplemental tools such as
literacy activities, guided reading groups, and technology are
used.
In addition to supplemental instruction to high-need students,
Title I also helps to provide the CAPE to first through third grade students at
Albany Elementary School. Mrs. Hannah, a staff
member, and two instructional assistants, work with the
students two hours daily Monday through Thursday.
Family involvement is another part of Title I, and activities
are typically offered throughout the school year. Title I Open
House occurs in the fall, and family activity nights (known as
F.A.N. nights) are usually planned for the months of January and
February. As in the past, Title I
looks for an opportunity for parents/guardians to attend a parent
fair to learn more about helping to develop educational skills at
home.
