Welcome to Albany Elementary on the web.
I truly believe that we are one of the top K-5 buildings in this
part of the state. Personally, it is rewarding to work for a
sixth year with dedicated and caring staff members. Our
students are fantastic. As good as Albany Elementary is,
however, we will continue to strive to make school an even better
place for our students. At Albany Elementary, we are looking
at ways to improve all aspects of our curriculum and student
achievement. We have participated in School Wide Planning
through Title I. This plan, which was developed during the
2005-2006 school year and revised last school year, helps us to
better focus on the academic needs of our students. We added an
Academic Coach during the 2007-2008 school year. Our coach
focused on fourth and fifth graders, and helped us implement our School Wide
Plan from Title I, and helped provide "best practice" research in the
area of reading and reading instruction. This year, our coach
will continue to help us with differentiated instruction models for our
classrooms.
Albany Elementary is committed to the concept
that “Students Are Number 1.” We believe every child has the
ability to achieve a level of success. We offer special programs to
help meet student needs. The Delaware Community school system also
has other opportunities for students who are in need of service
greater than we can meet at our building. Extra-curricular
activities are also a part of the total development of each
student. These activities range from choir, student council, Spell
Bowl, Math Bowl, Fitness Club, to our annual Talent Show in the
spring.
We encourage parents to become involved in the
education of their child. Albany Elementary has a strong and active
Parent-Teacher Organization that provides a variety of supports to
our teachers and students. The PTO helps fund this year’s
addition to the playground, stipends for classrooms for extra
supplies, field trips, and other incentives throughout the school year. PTO
meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month.
As a school, Albany Elementary consistently
meets or exceeds the standards set for us by the state of Indiana.
We attribute part of this excellence to our parents, to our
teachers, and to our ability to offer full day, every day
Kindergarten. It is our goal that Albany students will achieve the
maximum of his or her ability, demonstrate outstanding citizenship
and character each day, and develop the responsibility needed to be
successful in school and in life. To aid in our citizenship and
character instruction, for the 2009-2010 school year, Albany
Elementary will continue to use the M.O.P. program. I encourage you to
visit the rest of our website. If you have questions, please
contact me via e-mail or with a phone call. I am sure you will see
that “Albany is THE Place to Be!”
