Ozzie Mann Signs
Scholarship With
Ball State Football
By Katie Clark / Eagle's Eye Online
Ever since Ozzie Mann was little, he thought it would “be cool to be a Cardinal.” As of Wednesday, Feb. 1, that dream came true for the Delta High School senior.
In the company of his family, former coaches, and the administration, Ozzie signed his National Letter of Intent to play football at Ball State University.
Ozzie will be red-shirted this year, meaning he will be able to practice and lift with the team, but cannot play his freshman year. He plans to focus on his studies in elementary education because he wants to “influence little kids in a positive way”.
Ozzie’s high school coach, Coach Zgunda, said, “We’ve been to camp (at Ball State) many times, and I know he’s in good hands.” He pointed out that former Delta star Joey Lynch is on the coaching staff, also.
Zgunda believes that Ozzie will greatly develop his skills and become a strong player with the coaching he will get from Ball State. We wish Ozzie the best, and can’t wait to hear about him.

at Warner U. in Florida
By Katie Clark
Eagle's Eye Online
With the company of her father Patrick, step-mom Angie, mother Dawn, sister Chelsea and principal Jim Koger, senior Mackenzie Laboyteaux signed her letter of intent for golf on Monday, March 5.
“I’ve always wanted to play golf in college,” she said.
Laboyteaux decided she will be playing at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida where she will major in social work. Warner competes at the NAIA level.
Since there is nicer weather in Florida, Laboyteaux will be able to play year round.
“I won’t have to make any adjustments (playing in Florida); I’ll just have more practice time,” she said.
Laboyteaux was one of five seniors on Delta’s golf team this fall. This was one of the team’s best seasons, finishing with a record of 15-1. Laboyteaux was the team’s No. 2 golfer and helped the girls set a new school record of 154 in a nine-hole match.
We wish Mackenzie the best of luck and can’t wait to hear about her.

Taran

Prairie Heights
Eagle's Eye Online
Delta senior Taran Temple has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Ill., where he will play on the baseball team.
Temple said he plans to complete general studies in his two years at the junior college, then transfer to a four-year school where he will study finance.
Temple signed Tuesday, Feb. 21 at a morning ceremony attended by Delta baseball coach Terry Summers, athletic director Chris Conley, Taran's parents, Loren and Julie, and his brothers, Tanner and Tyus.
Tanner is a catcher and first baseman for the Eagles. This spring will be his third year on varsity. He was all-conference and all-county last year.

He will compete for the Red Wolves under head coach Erskine Ratchford, who attended the signing ceremony at Delta on Friday, Feb. 17. Also at the ceremony were Matt's parents, Rod and Melissa, and his sister, Meranda, as well as Delta AD Chris Conley, Delta tennis head coach Tim Cleland, and IU-East athletic administrator Kyle Wright.
Hinds earned a varsity letter this past fall at Delta, although he primarily played No. 1 singles junior varsity.

Girls' Golfers Break
Own School Record
By Leah Williams / Eagle's Eye
Online
Just two days after setting the
school record for lowest team score,
Delta’s
girls’ golf team broke it
again. Katie Holdren, Mackenzie
Laboyteaux, Bailey Mercer, Jordan
Parsons, and Jami Parsons achieved a
collective score of 155 on Tuesday
and 154 on Thursday. For the
seniors, this is the third time they
have set this record, breaking it
the first time their freshman year.
“It gives us motivation to play even
better and to possibly break it
again,” Mercer said.
Holdren, medalist for the match,
shot 33, which coaches believe broke
Delta’s individual record for nine
holes at Lakeview Greens. She led
the team to their 154-199 victory
over Southern Wells. “I worked
really hard all summer, and I’m just
glad it paid off,” she said.
The Eagles (5-0) next
play Muncie Southside at home on
Tuesday.
