Library

The DeSoto Elementary library/media center is centrally located adjacent to the school office.  Different programs are available through our library such as accelerated reader, which has been very successful this year.  Also, a tutoring program is available through Ball State University.  As a fundraiser, a book fair is held in the fall and in the spring of the school year.

All classes visit the library each week for instruction and book check out.  Library skills learned are: using the card catalog, dictionary skills, an introduction to reference books, an overview of the Dewey decimal system, as well as the location of different book collections.

It is our goal to provide students with current award winning books such as the Newberry and Caldecott Medal winners and honor books as well as new releases which have been starred in professional journals.  Additionally, we participate in the Young Hoosier books.
