Parent Teacher Organization

The DeSoto PTO is a wonderful and fun mix of parents, guardians, and staff working together to enhance our students' education, school, and community.  We have an open membership, and we welcome ALL volunteers and new ideas.

Our fund-raising efforts raise money each year for our student activity fund, which provides for informative field trips, convocations, awards, and other student needs.  We also provide yearly financial support for classroom and library materials, computer software, T-shirts for DeSoto Choir and Spell Bowl and Math Bowl Teams, and fun, family-focused activities.  Our surplus funds each year go toward special-interest projects voted on by our members and staff.

Over the past few years, we have focused our efforts on renovating our playground.  This huge project is complete, and we now have a safe environment in which our children can play.  We have recently purchased a new school sign and rock climbing wall.  Our focus is now turning to updating and improving other areas throughout the building.

During the 1999-2000 school year, we began a paper-recycling program.  DeSoto Elementary is now recycling the paper waste generated at the school.  Our students also reacted with great enthusiasm to our aluminum can campaign.  Each school year, in a month-long contest, our students collected approximately 50,000 cans!

Our PTO supports many enjoyable activities throughout the year, such as:

  • Open House (School, Challenge, Kindergarten)

  • Fall Festival

  • Grandparent's Day

  • Donuts for Dads

  • Morning With Moms

  • Class Calendar Sales

  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation

  • Blizzard Beach (Family Dance Night)

  • Afternoon Movie Days

  • And lots more!

Please check the school calendar for a complete monthly list of dates and times!
