Untitled by Chloe Bradburn Mrs. VanHubert shuffled glumly to her coat armoire. She knew that this was going to happen someday, but she just didn’t know when. Gertie looked back on her lavish younger years with adoration. From the grand galas to the weekends in Aspen, Gertie barely had time to think about savings accounts and investments. All she knew was she loved her husband Sherman and the luxurious life they lived together. Until now. Her husband contracted lung cancer from his many years of pipe smoking. As he lay on his deathbed, Sherman explained his only regret was never giving Gertie a child to keep her company when he passed. So there Gertie VanHubert was, a rich old woman all alone with but the maids to occupy her time. That is until she had to dismiss them for lack of funding. Her money was burned fast. Her only happiness was her fancy clothes, until today. Her only way to stay afloat was to rid herself of her rich lifestyle. So there Gertie was standing in front of her grand wardrobe, sifting through the memories of winters in Aspen in her mink coats. She went to the very back row, finding her most prized coat. In its prime, this coat was the talk of the town. Gertie picked up the phone to call the classifieds.
