"The purpose of the triathlon is to prove a point to these kids, this is what you can do."-Mr. Devine
Definition of Triathlon: Three Sports completed in a series over a continuous period of time. Triathlons vary in distance and in the sports involved. The Delta High School Triathlon will consist of the following sports, in sequence, and in length.
200 yard Swim....................Two Mile Bike....................One Mile Run
Purpose: To challenge each student to use their physical and mental abilities in completing an endeavor attempted by few high school students. To promote physical "wellness" as our students learn more about themselves both physically and mentally.
Iron man: This year we are going to have an Iron man division. Each qualifying participate will have to do a 400 yard Swim, four mile bike, and a two mile run.
Qualifications: Those students who have fulfilled qualifications outlined in class and who return a completed entry form have been excused, by the administration, from their first four classes on race day.
Location: The swim will take place in the Delta High School Pool. The bike course will be setup to circle the High School and the finish line will be located on the west side of the building by the pool after the run is completed on the stadium track.
First Aid: The school nurse and athletic trainers will be at the competition site. Certified lifeguards will be assigned to the pool area.
The Bike: Unfortunately, Delta High School does not have funds to supply the bikes for this event. Therefore, students will need to furnish a bicycle. We would like for all participants to have their bicycle delivered to the school between 7:00 and 7:45 a.m. on race day. Students may share a bike with a friend, as we will run three different heats of the Triathlon.
Awards: All competitors who complete the entire course will receive "finishers" certificates. An award ceremony will follow, after the third and final heat.
Parents: Volunteers are needed in assisting as supervisors to ensure the safety of all competitors.
