
Zach Ervin is the all-time record-holder for DHS boys' tennis victories and helped the 2004 team to a third-place
finish at the state meet. He was a four-time All-State selection.

Hayley Hall is the all-time record-holder for DHS
girls' tennis victories and was a four-time All-State selection. She
was State Runner-Up in singles.

Steve Hopkins is assistant coach for the DHS Girls' and Boys' Tennis teams and was an
All-State Doubles player at Delta.

HAYLEY HALL
Hayley competed in the IHSAA State
Singles finals in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was chosen Indiana
All-State Singles all four years of high school. She finished State Runner-Up
in 2006, the highest finish ever for any Delaware County tennis
player. She has represented Indiana in the Wightman Cup
competition. Hayley holds the DHS school record for varsity victories with
86, all at No. 1 singles. She plays tennis at Ball State University on a
tennis scholarship.
STEVE HOPKINS
Steve helped the DHS boys' tennis team to its
11th straight regional championship his senior year and was chosen
All-State Doubles. He is an assistant coach for the DHS Girls' and
Boys' Tennis teams and helps with the middle school program for DHS Tennis.
He has been a staff member at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center and a volunteer staffer at Muscular Dystrophy Camp. He is
a 2006 graduate of Delta HS. Steve is in graduate school at Ball State
University, where he studies psychology.
ZACH ERVIN
Zach was chosen Indiana
All-State Singles all four years of high school. He finished
fourth place at state in 2006 and he played No. 1 singles for the 2004
DHS boys' tennis team that placed third at state. He has represented Indiana in the
Junior Davis Cup
competition several times. Zach was chosen the recipient of the
Wilbur Schumacher award for sportsmanship in 2007 for the Central
Indiana Tennis Association. Zach holds the DHS school record for varsity victories with
101, almost all at No. 1 singles. He plays tennis at Butler University on a
scholarship.
DAVID ELLIS
David has been head tennis coach for
Anderson High School boys' and girls' tennis. He is an elementary school
teacher in Anderson. His daughter, Meaghan, and son, Brett, are
excellent tennis players.
DON WAFER
Don is head tennis coach for
Muncie Central High School boys' and girls' tennis. He is a high school
teacher at Muncie Central. His daughter, Devyn, is an
excellent high school player. Don is secretary/treasurer of the
Indiana HS Tennis Coaches Association and ranks in the Top 25 all-time among the state leaders
in career high school tennis victories with close to 400 wins.
ASHLEY PHILHOWER
Ashley is the head coach for girls' tennis at
Muncie Burris HS. She played two seasons of DHS girls' tennis and also was a manager for DHS boys' tennis. She
earned all-conference honors as a senior in 2008. She helped instruct
middle school tennis, also. Ashley played tennis at
Indiana University-Southeast before moving back to Muncie for college.
She works in the child care center at the Muncie Family YMCA.
MATT DEVAULT
Matt is head tennis coach for
Alexandria High School girls' tennis. He is a high school
teacher at Alexandria. Matt is the coordinator of the Top 30 state
rankings for girls' tennis for the
Indiana HS Tennis Coaches Association.
JON WEGENER
Jon, a graduate of Heritage Hall Christian
School, is a student at Ball State University, where he plays tennis on
the men's team. He has represented Indiana in the Junior Davis Cup
competition and is a Delaware County men's singles champion. His
father, Jim, is a longtime teaching pro at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
JOSH COOPER
Josh was chosen to the All-State Doubles team
while a player on the DHS Tennis team and also competed in the
Indiana-Kentucky Senior All-Star match. He played baseball at Taylor
University. Josh is currently a minister at The Bridge church in
Muncie and will be assistant boy' tennis coach at Delta this fall.
TAYLOR CARDINI
Taylor recently completed four seasons of
tennis on the DHS girls' team. She played No. 2 varsity doubles
this spring and led the team with an 18-4 record. Taylor will
attend Ball State University in the fall, where she plans to major in
elementary education.
