Delta Middle School Media Center Rules and Procedures
Students utilizing the Delta Middle School media center share in the responsibility of maintaining an environment conducive to study, research, and learning. Students will show respect to their teachers and other staff members, themselves, other students, and property belonging to others and the school.
Enter the media center quietly and sit in the assigned area.
Listen for instructions.
Walking is the only acceptable way to move in the media center.
No gum, food, or drinks are permitted in the media center.
The media center is not a hallway. No students are permitted to cross through the media center.
Students may borrow two materials at a time from the media center: two books or a book and a magazine. Exception: more materials may be borrowed for research projects.
Barcoded ID cards are required for checking out materials. Replacement cards cost $1.00.
The borrowing period is 4 weeks for books and two weeks for periodicals. Some reference materials may be borrowed overnight. Date due slips are printed when materials are borrowed. Books may be renewed.
Periodicals:
Current periodicals are placed in plastic binders and can be found on the east wall of the media center. Current periodicals may not be checked out but students are welcome to read them in the media center.
The media center subscribes to the Muncie Star Press, Indianapolis Star, and USA Today. They, too, may be read in the media center.
Magazines in the yellow boxes on the vertical file cabinets near the current periodicals may be borrowed.
Back issues of periodicals may be requested for research needs. Students may ask a staff member to retrieve magazines from the storeroom.
Students with overdue materials may not borrow any other materials until the overdue items are returned and/or lost materials or fines are paid.
The cost of lost materials range from $10 to $25, or higher for reference materials.
Lunch detention will be assigned to students who have materials that are overdue at the end of each quarter.
Fines of five cents per school day may be assessed for overdue books and magazines.
Scheduled classes have preference in using computers in the media center.
Agenda or other passes may be given to students from their classroom teachers to use the media center. The student’s name, purpose for using the media center, date/time, when to return, and teacher’s name need to be available on a pass. Students wanting to borrow books during EN must use up one of their quarterly passes. Students exhibiting improper behavior will be returned to class.
Students may use the student copy machine located inside the door of the AV storeroom for making copies to use for research. Copies are ten cents each.
Before leaving the media center, students are to make sure:
their chairs have been pushed in;
the materials they have been using have been returned to the place they were found;
any materials they wish to borrow have been checked out at the circulation desk;
any waste paper has been placed in the waste basket;
shelves they used are neat; and,
if they have been logged on to computers, they have logged off.
Be responsible. Be respectful. Be successful.
I hope you enjoy using the DMS media center. I am here to help you with your media center needs.
