Eaton Elementary Music

Music classes are taught by our music specialist, Mrs. Mealy. Students attend music class twice weekly and are exposed to a broad range of musical activities. Singing, moving, listening, creating, and playing instruments are included throughout the year. Music appreciation and music history are explored as well as multi-cultural music. By introducing students to all types of music, we hope to give them a solid foundation on which to build a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

We are pleased to have the Muncie Symphony Orchestra chamber groups perform for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Our 5th graders attend the Muncie Symphony Young People's Concert each year and our 3rd graders attend either a ballet or opera at Clowes Hall each fall. To prepare for these field trips, we often invite professionals from our school community to share their expertise with our students.

Performance is a natural outlet for a strong music program. All students in grades K-5 participate in the annual Christmas program. The 4th and 5th grades present a musical each fall. This presentation offers drama, dancing, and singing opportunities. The choir is the core of the musical, but it is open to all students who are interested in participating.

Choir is offered to all interested 4th and 5th graders. For those students who enjoy singing, choir provides the opportunity to develop vocal skills while singing a variety of music. The choir meets each Monday from 2:30p.m.- 3:15p.m. Performances for the choir include caroling for the community, participation at the FAME festival in Muncie, singing at a nursing home twice a year, lunchroom serenades and singing in the 4th and 5th grade fall musical. The choir participates each year in the FAME festival at the Minnetrista Center in Muncie. The students sing several selections and have the opportunity to hear other groups perform. Eaton Elementary student art work is also displayed at the festival. A few selected students participate in "Circle the State With Song." This is an opportunity for those students to study selected repertoire and perform with a large group under the direction of a guest clinician and director.
