Mrs. Kathy Hottinger, Principal                                                                          August 20, 2010

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have had an excellent first two weeks of school!  Thank you for the part you have played in that.

We do have a few beginning of the year reminders.

Guests-Please remember to stop at the front desk to sign in and receive a guest badge when you visit.  Adults will not be

sent to classrooms unless prior arrangements with the teacher have been made.  We do not want to interrupt student

learning.  We ask that you not walk back to your child’s classroom in the morning or at dismissal.  These are two very hectic

times of the day and teachers need to be able to give their undivided attention to their students.  Even kindergarten students

should now be able to go to their classroom alone.  We are very proud of them!

Busses/Cars-Busses begin unloading at 7:50 in the morning and begin loading at 2:25 in the afternoon.  Once busses have

arrived, we ask that cars do not pull up next to them.  Please wait until you can unload near the flagpole.  An adult is outside

to supervise in the morning until 8:15.  Please do not park and get out of your car or wait until your child is all the way up the

sidewalk as this stops the rest of the busses and cars from unloading.  This will allow all students to remain safe.

Medication-All medications need to be checked in with Mrs. Maxwell, our school nurse.  She is at school from 7:45-2:45.

We are looking forward to being partners with you in the education of your child this year.

Cafeteria Information-If your child has a special dietary need (example:  lactose intolerance) you will need a form signed by your

physician stating that a substitution needs to be made before the cafeteria can substitute any item.  In the case of a child with lactose

intolerance we will not be able to offer your child a substitution without a signed doctor’s note.  Please also note that soy milk will be

offered as a substitution for milk in the instance of lactose intolerance.  If you have questions please contact Dee Orick at 747-0879.

FREE TUTORING

Free tutoring will be offered on Monday evenings again this year.  Tutoring will begin Monday, September 13th.  It will be from 6:00-

7:30 and will take place here at the elementary school.  This service is provided by volunteers from Eden Church.

We will encourage students to show their Eaton PRIDE by doing their personal best, showing respect for

themselves, others, and property, becoming more independent learners, showing determination to succeed,

and giving their best effort.

You Can Help!

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with projects, run off papers for staff members, and do other miscellaneous

things that provide a service to our students.  If you are interested in volunteering, please call and speak with Mrs. Hottinger or

Mrs. Gordon.

Cans for Habitat for Humanity-We will again collect cans in the small shed across the street from the school.  Last year we collected

382 pounds.  Let’s see if we can top that this year!

We continue to collect Box Tops for Education.

We appreciate all of you who send these to school for us.  The money we earn is used for our Accelerated Reader Program that

encourages students to read more.  Last year we raised $1,253.01!

Meijer Community Rewards, Marsh Fresh Idea’s for Education, and Target School Rewards are all programs that Eaton

Elementary is registered in.  You designate Eaton to be the recipient of the money earned through your regular purchases at these stores.

If you shop at any of these stores, we would encourage you to get signed up.  Our Meijer check last year was for $105.05, our Target

check was $300.14, and we were able to get 60 calculators, some geometric shapes, and a bullhorn for emergencies with our Marsh

points.

Education First License Plates are available when you get a new plate.  There is an extra cost to these plates that is forwarded to the

school corporation of your choice.

Welcome!

Many wonderful new staff members have joined us at Eaton.  Mrs. King is helping in the cafeteria, Mrs. Emrick teaches first

grade, Mrs. Reynolds teaches first and second grade reading, Mrs. Sprague is an instructional assistant, Mrs. Eichhorn teaches

music, Mrs. Kern teaches fourth grade, Mr. Neckers teaches fifth grade, Mrs. Hansell is our counselor, and Mrs. Bush teaches

in the resource room.  We are excited to have them here to serve our students.

Thank you for sharing your children with us this year.
