Third Grade
Third grade is a challenging year for all students. We begin the year by reviewing skills for the ISTEP + test. We offer practice sessions after school for all students.
The students receive grades for all subjects this year including science and social studies, which is new for them this year. We also concentrate on learning cursive handwriting. Book reports, accompanied by an interesting project, are a part of our school-wide “Book-it” program. Selected students have the opportunity to attend the after-school C.A.P.E. program. In math, multiplication facts become a fun learning tool through multiplication rap and flash cards. You can earn a banana split in the spring if you know them all!!
We attend many fun and exciting field trips that add enrichment to our curriculum. We go to the apple orchard with our kindergarten-reading buddies in the fall, in the early spring we attend the Ball State Health Fair and learn about health and fitness, in the late spring we attend Conner Prairie and extend our knowledge of community that we learn through Social Studies. We also write another neighboring school. Being pen pals helps us to increase our knowledge of communication skills.
Students are allowed to join the Meteorology Club this year and become part of the televised announcements each morning. They learn about what it takes to record current weather and give a forecast for the day. In the spring if we are lucky, one of WISH TV Channel 8 meteorologists will come to visit us.
