Second grade is a year of great growth - academically, socially, and emotionally for the students. They learn various ways to deal with new academic challenges, different social situations, and how to handle emotional ups and downs. We emphasize the continued acquisition and mastery of reading, language and math skills and stress the application of these skills in all areas of our curriculum. Regrouping in math and cursive writing are introduced, The students are exposed to their world - past and present - through our social studies and science programs. Second graders are eager to learn and express wonder at new activities.

Special activities/units included during second grade:

• Indian Unit - study four main locations in our country, construct a teepee, hogan, or a pueblo, participate in a feast with third grade
• Christmas Around the World - see how this holiday is celebrated in other lands
• Zoorific Economics - through the use of puppetry, we learn how to make good choices and decisions about our economy and personal living
