WE HAVE A "SPLITTING GOOD TIME" IN THIRD GRADE! Third Grade Supply List
The third grade curriculum is tailored to meet the strengths and interests of the classroom
along with the Indiana State Standards. We begin the school year by reviewing skills for ISTEP
Testing. Life science really comes alive when our students receive
and adopt their live meal worms. The study of mealworms helps the
students to understand the stages of insect development. This is one
of many hands-on activities that are presented throughout the year.
Besides life scie Our Social Studies curriculum stresses communities and their development, current events, and map skills. Field trips are arranged to reinforce the concepts we study in Social Studies and Science. Supplements to our curriculum include "Econ and Me", and the study of economics, a unit study on drugs. Another highlight is our traditional Thanksgiving Feast with the second grade that brings alive the spirit of the first Thanksgiving. Our Language Arts program includes Spelling, Language, Writing, and Reading. The writing process is taught and developed daily, weekly, and monthly using a variety of activities. We are fortunate to have modern technology in our labs and classrooms to supplement and expand our curriculum. Here's the scoop about Math. One exciting event to help students learn their multiplication facts is the "Banana Split" party held at the end of the year. The composition of each student's banana split depends upon the zero through twelve facts that each child learns. We know that third grade is a transitional year between the primary elementary grades and the upper elementary grades. Therefore, our curriculum is designed to facilitate this transition. You really are a "Top Banana" when you're in third grade! |
