WELCOME TO OUR LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER
The Royerton Elementary library/media center is a spacious and pleasant area located in the
heart of our school, decorated according to the month of the year. The library is divided
in two adjoining rooms, which also physically divides our book collection as well. The
primary or picture books, both fiction and nonfiction, are located in the new, many-windowed
addition where all classes meet for library instruction skills, such as using the library
catalog and other skills useful for locating materials.
The main section of the library accommodates our upper level fiction and nonfiction books,
as well as reference books and our magazine selection for students and teachers. We supply
professional magazines as well as current interest ones.
Between the two rooms and at a focal point in the library, we have a moon tower clock which
was purchased locally. The clock is a physical rendition of the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle
Diddle". Composed of papier mache and other light materials, it is whimsical and
entertaining as well as a functional part of our library.
Our library is used for a variety of purposes such as student council, after school
tutoring, and faculty meetings, as well as scheduled special events for parents and
grandparents.
Books selected for the library are chosen from starred reviews in professional journals and
recommendations of staff and students. Audio visual materials, such as videos, are supplied
by our East Central Indiana Cooperative, where teachers place orders directly.
We have at least one book fair each year to raise funds for library favors, such as
bookmarks, as well as decorations and other items which are not funded by our budget.
We believe, "We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading". - from R.
Evans, B.F. Skinner: The Man and His Ideas (1968)
