Nurse

The purpose of Mrs. Vaughn, our school nurse is to appraise, protect, and promote the health of all students at Royerton Elementary School.

When a child enters the school for the first time, the parent must show proof of the following immunizations, which are required by the state of Indiana.

MINIMUM IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CHILDREN NEWLY ENROLLED IN KINDERGARTEN OR GRADE 1 AND LESS THAN 7 YEARS OF AGE:
  • 1 does of Varicella vaccine or parental history of chicken pox disease
  • 5 doses of diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DtaP), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP), or pediatric diphtheria-tetanus vaccine (DT), or 4 doses are acceptable if the fourth dose was administered on or after the fourth birthday;
  • 4 doses of either oral polio vaccine (OPV) or inactivated polio vaccine (IPV), in any combination, or 3 doses of all OPV or all IPV are acceptable if the third dose was administered on or after the fourth birthday;
  • 2 doses of measles (rubeola) vaccine, on or after the first birthday;
  • 1 dose of rubella (German measles) vaccine, on or after the first birthday;
  • 1 dose of mumps vaccine, on or after the first birthday;
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine.

If a student is under medical care and must take medication during school hours, there is a strict medication policy that is followed. Medication must be in its original container, with a permission slip signed by the parent or guardian explaining the medication, dosage, time of day it is to be given, and the dates it is to be given.

If parents have any question, our school nurse, Mrs. Vaughn, is in the building Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 3:00.
