  1. LETTERS/NOTES

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander thanked Mr. Conley for his presentation and stated she still has a lot of questions, but really likes what she hears.  She thanked him for his hard work on that and stated she knows it’s not light work.  She thanked Ms. Lewman and congratulated her student on her essay.  She congratulated all sports teams doing well for wrestling, swimming, diving, choir, etc. and stated lots of good stuff is going on and she’s excited to hear about all the new stuff happening.

Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis thanked Mr. Conley for his presentation.  She appreciates it and thanked him for sharing.  She congratulated Selena Thomas at Royerton on her essay and said she likes hearing about individual stuff because it shows what the individual can do.  She stated team sports are outstanding, but she likes individual stuff.  She congratulated all athletic teams and stated Delta is up there with academics and athletics and that’s good.

Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked Mr. Conley for his presentation.  He stated graduation has come a long way since he graduated and what an opportunity kids have through Delta High School and even in elementary and middle school.  He stated kids have a chance to find a path to graduation and be successful after graduation.  He commented we have so many opportunities academically for these kids to have a chance to achieve whatever they want to accomplish after they graduate.  He knows it’s a lot of work for teachers, counselors, principals, and administration to put together programs, but it’s meaningful work and should never be taken for granted.  He stated we have a great staff here who work tirelessly to make sure these kids can be successful when they graduate.

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams concurred with his fellow board members.  He stated he loves seeing donations and always wants to highlight those.  He thanked everyone for their donations and stated they are phenomenal.  He stated there is not enough words of gratitude to those who go above and beyond and it’s so appreciated and used for so many opportunities for our kids.  He gave a shout-out to food service and stated it’s a tough job with a specific set of hours and not easy.  He stated we have seen a lot of turn-over, but this will help and for those employed, it gives them an opportunity to feel more appreciated.  He encourages those who want a way to serve kids to look at that as an option.  He commented every part is important in our schools and that’s another one and he appreciates all they do.

John Adams – Mr. Adams stated not a meeting goes by that we don’t have administrators here and it’s greatly appreciated when they come and share what is going on in their buildings.  He concurred with Ms. Gillis on the individual awards and stated that’s pretty special.  He stated even when they aren’t asked to do it, but it’s something they feel they want to do and then they excel at it.  He informed Mrs. Lewman he hopes that’s a testament to the people in her building and what they’re doing with those kids.  He stated when they talk about pathways and all that entails today at the high school level, he thinks back to the 80’s when he graduated, they were just worried about getting kids to just graduate.  He stated they had all kinds of opportunities back then, but you kind of took it for granted.  He stated with the amount of things they were able to learn back then, he can only imagine now going through a pathway and spending extra time in a certain subject and what that can do to serve our students.  He stated what we do is serve, building administrators serve our students every day and serve our community by making sure our school has what it needs to educate kids.  He said even though that gets harder every day, it’s enlightening to know we can still bring a few subject matters and give our kids a leg up in an area they thought wasn’t possible.  He stated it is possible because we all care.  He knows it’s a state requirement, but the DelCom family will find a way to make sure our kids get what they need and that’s grateful to hear.  He informed everyone he had the opportunity this weekend to be down at the State Finals and give out the Mental Attitude Award for Farm Bureau.  He stated it made his heart feel good to see one of our own principals, who is on the IHSAA Executive Committee, give out awards to his own students.  He commented there is nothing better than to be able to give your own kids their medals of achievement.  He stated there are a lot of schools in the state that their principal would never be able to get to do that at that level.  He’s thankful for what Mr. Conley does and stated it was a neat experience to watch him do that because it’s pretty special.  He stated it’s also special they got to be on TV together because that doesn’t happen every day either.  Mr. Adams stated he doesn’t know where our kids would be today without the IHSAA because they do so much for our youth.  He stated we can get them to a certain point, but really the IHSAA goes above and beyond and puts on a top notch final.  He stated you can see the smile on the faces of those who got individual medals and that’s a big deal.  He stated it was a pretty special weekend for some of them who got to represent DelCom.  He gave a shout-out to Tilmon Clark.  He stated not all schools have swimmers or wrestlers, etc. in state finals and he’s doing a great job with the time and effort he’s putting in.  Mr. Adams loves following the social media stuff Mr. Clark does and knows when he’s not there he’s getting updates quickly.  He appreciates the job he’s doing and stated it’s a tough job.  He got to spend a little time with Mr. Clark on Saturday evening and got to discuss these things.  He stated he’s a joy to be around, loves kids, loves high school sports, and Mr. Adams couldn’t be more thankful we have him in our family.
