MINUTES


Present:  Lance Engle, President; Valerie Alexander, Vice President; Jacob Case, Secretary; John Adams, Member; Dave Grasso, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Greg Kile, Superintendent


An executive session was held at 5:45 p.m. at the Administration Building before the regular scheduled board meeting.



  1. CALL TO ORDER


At 6:30 p.m. Board President, Lance Engle called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. Recommendation to employ Layna Burcham as a Latchkey Assistant Supervisor at Eaton Elementary School effective December 3, 2024.


  1. Recommendation to transfer Ryder Riggin from a Latchkey Assistant Supervisor at Eaton Elementary School to a Latchkey Supervisor at Albany Elementary School effective December 2, 2024.

  1. Recommendation to employ Laurenz Sims-Jones as a Head Boys’ Track Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2024-25 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Tyler Gilland as a 7th/8th Grade Head Baseball Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2024-25 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Maddie Fox as an Academic Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2024-25 school year.


  1. Recommendation to appoint Andrew Schricker as a Volunteer Assistant 6th Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2024-25 school year, pending successful completion of all  pre-employment testing.

  1. Carrie Clevenger requests permission to attend the WVEC Meeting EL ToR to be held on December 13, 2024 at the Herman Wells Center in Lebanon, IN.

  1. A motion was made by Dave Grasso and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the ENA Contract Riders, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the EES Accelerated Reader Fund transfer to the Student Activities Fund, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by John Adams to approve the Teacher Appreciation Grant ($96,099.32), as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Dave Grasso to approve the permission to pay year-end expenses from the 2024 budget and to balance all accounts, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Dr. Gullion, Assistant Superintendent, gave a Monthly Finance Review, as presented.

  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the retirement of Ron Trissel, Bus Aide, effective  December 20, 2024.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Dave Grasso and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the DHS Baseball Trip, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote. 


A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Dave Grasso to approve the following (items b-c):


  1. AES Long Term Sub, as presented.

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Dave Grasso to approve the classified pay increase (reflected in the 1st January pay), as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the following fundraisers (information only):


  1. Hayley Greiner, DMS Student Council, requests permission to sell greeting cards, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Secret Families and Student Council.


  1. Julie Blakely and Whitney Freeman, DHS Student Council, request permission to hold a canned food drive from     November 19, 2024 through November 25, 2024, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Albany and Eaton food pantries.


  1. Julie Blakely, DHS Student Council, requests permission to collect toys from December 2, 2024 through December 6, 2024, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Toys for Tots.


  1. Chase Criswell, DMS Athletics, requests permission to collect sponsorships from January 1, 2025 through September 1, 2025, as presented.  Proceeds go towards DMS athletics.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

 

Dave Grasso – Dr. Grasso stated he’s very impressed with the information from the principals on their conference.  He is glad they got something out of that and got to get out of the building and have a little refresher.  He congratulated the high school on their Early College Credit endorsement.  


John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board member.  He informed everyone it’s Mr. Case’s birthday today.  He commented it’s good to have administrators here this evening informing them about things going on in their buildings.  He congratulated Royerton on the Title I award.  He commented on the high school rising star students and stated that’s a great achievement for them.  He congratulated Ms. Gossett on the Early College Credit endorsement. He stated he was here when they started that and it’s good to see it continuing on and for what it does for our kids.  He commented on Audra Fant singing the National Anthem at Lucas Oil Stadium.  He hopes a lot of people have watched that.  He commented on the Teacher Appreciation Grant being a great thing.  He congratulated Mr. Trissel on his retirement and wished him the best.  


Jacob Case – Mr. Case concurred with his fellow board members.  He stated it’s that time of year for Christmas Programs and stated the schools will be packed and it’s great to see that.  He congratulated the four students at the high school for the rising star awards and the Early College endorsement.  He stated it’s great we are one of a few schools who have the full endorsement.  He is glad we can give Teacher Appreciation Grants again this year and congratulated Royerton on the Title I Award.  He stated we have a lot of great things going on in our schools.  He is proud to be able to sit on this Board and see that happen.  He’s also glad he gets to serve with this Board and stated they all have the same goals and thanked everyone for that.  


Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander commented that everyone should take a minute to watch the video of Audra Fant singing because it is amazing.  She stated it was really cool and congratulated her on being able to do that.  She stated it’s an exciting, busy season and we are all in the Thanksgiving hangover and on to Christmas.


Lance Engle – Mr. Engle concurred with his fellow board members.  He hopes everyone had a wonderful break.  He stated we are hitting December running with the beautiful cold weather.  He stated even though it can get busy and crazy, he encourages everyone to find ways to enjoy it.  He stated find the little things because it’s a great time of the season and school year with the different Christmas Programs and the kids enjoy it.  He thinks it’s great to see outside people come to our schools and be surprised at what we do.  He stated we know and aren’t surprised, but it’s great when others see it too.  He commented he’s proud of all five of our schools and the work they do and stated it continues to make him proud to be a part of DelCom.  He hopes everyone enjoys the season.  He commented they were able to give classified employees a raise and stated they do great, unrecognized work.  He stated they are proud to do that for them because they deserve it and he’s glad they were able to do that again this year.  



  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A regular meeting for the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.



  1. ADJOURNMENT


A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Jacob Case and Board President, Lance Engle, adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
