  1. LETTERS/NOTES

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for being here this evening.  He thanked Ms. Camp for her presentation and stated the information she gave is great to have because it allows them to analyze it.  He stated her presenting it the way she did was very helpful as far as the day to day stuff and what she’s looking at doing on the trip.  He commented to Ms. Camp it would be neat if they could do a few more performances on the trip.  He stated they could always do something outside the hotel.  He was on a trip where a kid that was a really good singer got off the bus and started singing in the parking lot.  He stated it is neat when that happens.  He’s sure Ms. Camp will get a lot of interest for the trip and he looks forward to hearing more about it.  Mr. Fox thanked Mr. Prince for being willing to serve DelCom in a different capacity than prior years.  He knows he’ll do great things with the seat and put a lot of heart and soul into making it work.  He stated there have been a lot of awards given out in different facets in the schools, which is exciting.  It’s not just sports, it’s a whole rounded environment where the kids are getting a lot of different life experiences.  He stated it’s neat to see and hear about those things.  He thanked the administrators for bringing those to their attention and stated it’s nice to see it on Twitter as well, which is always neat to see.

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams thanked the administrators for bringing Science Fair, Circle the State With Song, local competitions, sectionals for the swimming/diving team, and ISTEP to their attention.  He stated it’s a busy time in the school year and wishes everyone the best in all those things.  He stated he just received a Twitter alert and thinks it’s a video of Sam Bennett diving at regionals and it sounds like he is doing well.  He hopes he continues to do well.  Mr. Williams thanked Mr. Prince for stepping up and taking the board position.  He appreciates his willingness to serve and be a part of this process and for the years he’s already put into the school district.  He appreciates Mr. Overholt’s presentation and stated it’s neat what they are doing.  He said he will be enticing his child to do more and volunteering for things like that. He appreciates Mr. Overholt bringing that to them.

Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis congratulated Ms. Marshall and Ms. McKee for their Bell Grants.  She congratulated all solo ensemble and swim team winners and stated that’s outstanding.  She wished good luck to the Science Fair winners who are moving on to State.  She congratulated and wished good luck to the FCCLA students for doing their thing.  Ms. Gillis thanked Mr. Prince for agreeing to join this lovely group.  She hopes he enjoys it as much as she has.  She thanked Ms. Camp for her presentation and thinks it’s a great thing, but is nervous about having our kids travel.  She stated when she was in high school, they had a few problems, but traveling never seemed to be an issue.  Their band went to New York and marched in the Macy’s Day Parade so it can be done.  She stated it is a little nerve racking, but it can be done.  She wished Ms. Camp luck and hopes she gets it all together.  She thanked Mr. Overholt and was impressed with the football players for reading to kids.  She knows football players and athletes in general can encourage kids a lot more than we can sometimes.  She stated it may encourage them to do a lot more reading and get involved.  She appreciates Mr. Overholt and his work on that.

John Adams – Mr. Adams stated all the kids on the wrestling team did great.  He gave a shout-out to his cousin Payne for making it all the way to State.  He’s sure his goals for next year are going to change, but that’s a big accomplishment for him.  He stated it was very well done and they are a respected group of young men who advanced as far as they could.  He stated for as long as he’s been here, it’s nice to see Bell Grants come through and individuals getting to utilize them because they are well deserved.  He stated the singing and accolades that were mentioned this evening is great to hear.  He stated sometimes those aren’t the ones you see in the newspaper on the sports page, but at the end of the day, what they do is still very important.  It’s important to them and their families so those need to be celebrated as well.  He congratulated all students who were able to go to Circle the State With Song because it’s a great accomplishment.  He doesn’t know if we’ve ever had the football group go out and talk about something that really deals with school.  He knows that group has gone out before and talked to groups about being good students and getting good grades, but they are taking it one step further and that’s good to see.  He stated it’s the first he’s heard of the 2nd to 7 Foundation, but it sounds like it’s a great program and he’s glad they’ve picked it up.  He thanked Ms. Kirtley for allowing the FCCLA kids to be a part of the program and achieve goals that aren’t on Friday and Saturday nights under the lights, in the pool, or whatever it may be.  He stated it’s another avenue and outside activity our kids get to do and that’s important.  He’s glad Ms. Camp came this evening and shared information about her trip.  He hopes she gets as many kids as she can to go and experience it.  He thinks it will be a great thing and he feels very comfortable with her presentation and the information she provided.  He stated she’s taken the necessary steps to do this in the best manner with the safety of our kids and he thanked her for that.  He stated there aren’t many meetings where we don’t have a donation of some sort.  To all those who donate and have donated, it’s great they do that for our kids.  He stated there are a lot of good things going on at DelCom.  Mr. Adams thinks our corporation has tried to do things and position ourselves where we can be the kind of school with great leadership.  He stated one time when he met Governor Mitch Daniels, Mr. Daniels asked him why in the world he would want to be a School Board Member.  Mr. Daniels said he’d rather be a Governor any day than be a School Board Member.  Mr. Adams stated you do it because you want to serve your community and do the best you can for the kids.  He thanked Mr. Prince for throwing his name in the hat.  He knows he’ll represent us well and is glad to have him as part of the team.  He stated we have a lot of great leaders in our corporation.  He thanked them for all they do with the evenings they put in, extra time and effort, and overtime.  They do it because they want to be part of something good and Mr. Adams thinks that resonates to what we’re doing at DelCom Schools.  He stated last week was a very tough week for schools with the tragedy in Florida.  He would like to have a moment of silence for those families.  A moment of silence was taken.
