MINUTES

Present:  Adam Williams, President; Trent Fox, Vice President; John Adams, Secretary; Alice Gillis, Member; Tyce Stebbins, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Reece Mann, Superintendent

 

I.                   CALL TO ORDER

At 6:30 p.m. Board President, Adam Williams, called the meeting to order.

II.                PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

III.             AMEND AGENDA

A motion was made by Tyce Stebbins and seconded by Trent Fox to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved unanimously.

 

IV.              MINUTES

A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Alice Gillis to accept the minutes of the business meeting and executive session held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.  The motion was approved unanimously.

 

V.                 FINANCE

A.     A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Trent Fox to accept the list of vouchers, as presented.  The motion was approved unanimously.

B.     A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by John Adams to approve Form 9, as presented.  The motion was approved unanimously.

C.     Purchases over $7500:

A motion was made by Tyce Stebbins and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following: (items 1-2):

1.       Salyer Taylor                  FS       $4,338.00 (DMS Cafeteria)

CP       $5,886.00 (DMS Boiler/7th RR)

2.      American Asphalt          CP       $8,280.00 (DHS)

CP       $9,760.00 (RES)

The motion was approved unanimously.

 

VI.              COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR

 

Haley Cross, Food Service Director, stated in June they served 4,790 student meals and 288 adult meals.

Doug Marshal, Principal at Royerton Elementary School, thanked staff that came in the month of June for the Royerton Elementary library to be open.  It was a great outreach.

Kelly Brown, Principal at Delta Middle School, thanked the custodial staff at Delta Middle School and stated the building looks fabulous.  She has enjoyed hosting latchkey this summer.  The staff takes pride and has worked well together.

Collen Delaney, Latchkey Supervisor, stated Summer Blast has averaged 10 more kids than last summer.  He thanked Kelly Brown, Melia Clawson, Barb Hammond and the custodial staff for bending over backwards for them and being happy to help.  He stated it’s a fun, safe program and he appreciated everyone behind the scenes.  He thanked Haley and the Eaton crew for being great.  Mr. Delaney thanked Mr. Mann and Dr. Gullion.

 

VII.           NEW BUSINESS

A.     Certified Staff

A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the following (item 1):

1.       Request for Kristin Kalk, Elementary Teacher at Eaton Elementary School, to take an unpaid 2 day leave, as presented.

The motion was approved unanimously.

A motion was made by Tyce Stebbins and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (item 2):

2.      Recommendation to employ Todd Trehearne as a Chemistry and ICP teacher at Delta High School effective August 1, 2016 pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.

The motion was approved unanimously.

B.     Classified Staff

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Tyce Stebbins to approve the following (items 1 – 6):

1.       Retirement of Cathy Giammichele as a School Nurse at Delta High School effective July 11, 2016.

2.      Resignation of Christian Haley as an Instructional Assistant at Eaton Elementary School effective immediately.

3.      Resignation of Alexa Lewis as an Instructional Assistant at Albany Elementary School effective July 11, 2016.

4.      Resignation of Kelly Manor as an Instructional Assistant at Eaton Elementary School effective immediately.

5.      Retirement of Lin Yadon as an Instructional Assistant at Royerton Elementary School effective July 11, 2016.

6.      Resignation of Debra Maine as a Food Service Cook at Delta High School effective immediately.

The motion was made unanimously.

A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items 7-10):

7.      Recommendation for Angie Campbell, Title 1 Instructional Assistant at Eaton Elementary School, to increase hours from 5.75 to 8 hours per day.

8.     Recommendation for Susie Haggard, Instructional Assistant at Eaton Elementary School, to decrease hours from 8 to 7 hours per day.

9.      Recommendation to employ Nikki Olson as an Instructional Assistant at Eaton Elementary School effective August 1, 2016. 

10.  Recommendation to transfer Beth Rees from Food Service Assistant Manager to Food Service Secretary effective July 12, 2016.

The motion was approved unanimously.

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the following (item 11):

11.   Recommendation to employ Bus Drivers, Sub Bus Drivers, and Bus Aides, as presented.

The motion was approved unanimously.

 

C.     Extra-Curricular

A motion was made by Tyce Stebbins and seconded by John Adams to approve the following (items 1-9):

1.       Recommendation to employ Alexandra Pavich as a Diving Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2016-17 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.

2.      Recommendation to employ Chris Van Pelt as a Head Freshman Boys’ Basketball Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2016-17 school year.

3.      Recommendation to employ Kylie Dorton as a Head 8th Grade Volleyball Coach at Middle High School effective for the 2016-17 school year.

4.      Recommendation to employ Steve Slavin as an Assistant Boys’ Tennis Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2016-17 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.

5.      Recommendation to appoint Steve McDowell as a Volunteer Assistant Girls’ Golf Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2016-17 school year.

6.      Recommendation to employ Shanon Smith as a Fitness Club Director at Royerton Elementary School effective for the 2016-17 school year.

7.      Recommendation to employ Kenna Fisher as an Assistant Choir Director at Royerton Elementary School effective for the 2016-17 school year.

8.     Recommendation to employ David Reade as an Activity Director at Delta High School effective August 1, 2016.

9.      Recommendation to employ Curt Howard as an Assistant Freshman Football Coach effective the 2016-2017 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.

The motion was approved unanimously.

 

D.    Conference Requests/Field Trips

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Tyce Stebbins to approve the following (items 1-2):

1.       Kim Kemper and Cheryl Dominick request permission to attend an Anthem Meeting to be held on July 14, 2016 at Anthem in Indianapolis, IN.

2.      Nakkia Patrick and Jill Selvey request permission to attend a Reading Summit for Educators to be held on July 26, 2016 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, KY.

The motion was approved unanimously.

 

 

E.     Information and Proposals

1.       Superintendent

a.      A motion was made by Tyce Stebbins and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the Consortium Compensation, as presented.  The motion was approved unanimously.

b.      Mr. Mann informed the Board about Bully/Harassment Reports.  Joe Schmaltz, Doug Marshall, Greg Kile, Kelly Brown, and Joey Gossett gave a report from each of their buildings.

c.       Fundraising:

1.       None.

A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items d-e):

d.      Approve authority to allow Superintendent Mann to hire personnel, pending Board final approval. 

e.      Approve authority to pay claims, pending Board final approval. 

The motion was approved unanimously.

 

2.      Assistant Superintendent

a.      Use of Facilities:

1.       None.

b.      A motion was made by Alice Gillis and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the request for Delta High School to receive a donation of $2,500.00 from the Army National Guard, as presented.  The motion was approved unanimously.

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Tyce Stebbins to accept the following (items c-e):

c.       Request to surplus items at Delta Middle School, as presented. 

d.      Request to surplus items at Delta High School, as presented. 

e.      Request to surplus items at Central Office, as presented. 

The motion was approved unanimously.

IX.              BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis thanked the Summer Meals Program, Collen Delaney and Summer Blast.  She saw them in action.  Thank you to Royerton Elementary for summer library.  Ms. Gillis appreciates the bully/harassment reports given by the administrators.

John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board members.  He welcomed Mr. Trehearne.  He thanked those leaving DelCom for helping with the kids.  He wished the best to Cathy Giammichele.  He stated it doesn’t matter how long an employee has been here, he’s sure the kids have benefitted.  Mr. Adams stated 5,078 meals is a lot and congratulated all the staff.  He greatly appreciates it.

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for coming and sharing information.  He congratulated Mr. Trehearne.  He thanked the National Guard for the donation.  Mr. Fox hopes everyone enjoys the next couple of weeks before school starts and thanked the staff for getting things ready.

Tyce Stebbins – Mr.  Stebbins stated this is a stressful time of year and thanked the staff for their hard work and getting things ready.  He thanked the patrons for understanding and having patience.  Mr. Stebbins thanked Ms. Giammichele for her years of service.

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams thanked everyone for coming.

 

FUTURE MEETINGS

 

A.     The Delaware Community School Corporation “Opening Day” meeting will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. at Delta High School.

 

B.     A regular meeting for the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.

 

X.                 ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by John Adams and Board President, Adam Williams, adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
