MINUTES


Present:  John Adams, President; Lance Engle, Vice President; Valerie Alexander, Secretary; Alice Gillis, Member; Jacob Case, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Greg Kile, Superintendent



  1. CALL TO ORDER


At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the following under Consent Agenda:

  1. Lance Brand requests permission to attend AVI Live AV and Tech Expo to be held on September 19, 2023 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Lindsey Thompson requests permission to attend the INCUE Meeting to be held on September 29, 2023 at CIESC in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Lindsey Thompson requests permission to attend the ICE Conference to be held on October 5, 2023 at Franklin Central in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Lindsey Thompson, Lance Brand, Rachel Vance, and Chyenne Wilder request permission to attend the HECC Conference to be held from November 8, 2023 through November 10, 2023 at the Crown Plaza in Indianapolis, IN. 


  1. Rachel Vance requests permission to attend the IASP Assistant Principals Conference to be held on November 17, 2023 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, IN.

  1. Christopher Maxymuik, US Army Recruiting, requests permission to use the Delta High School football field on September 15, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. to hold ultimate football training, as presented.


  1. Alison Jackson, Cardinal Swim Club, requests permission to use the Delta High School pool, balcony over gym, and hospitality room on           October 28, 2023 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to hold the Dactacular swim meet, as presented.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the Secured School Safety Grant ($100,000), as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the termination of Rhonda McPherson, Custodian at Delta High School, effective September 11, 2023.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve  School Improvement Plans, as presented.   The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the Request for an unpaid day, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the OMS Albany Project Recommendation to reject all bids, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Valerie Alexander and seconded by Lance Engle to approve SRO pay for Gary Marvin, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Lance Engle to approve the suspension of a non-certified employee, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Superintendent Kile informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Haley Hissong, DHS Science Club, requests permission to hold face painting at DelCom football games, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the Science Club ECA account.


  1. Assistant Superintendent


  1. Donations:


  1. A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the request for Eaton Elementary to accept a donation in the amount of $300.00 from Dairy Queen, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Valerie Alexander to approve the request for the IT Department to surplus items, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS


Jacob Case – Mr. Case thanked everyone for coming.  He welcomed Mr. Medaris to the family and thanked him for applying for the job.  He hopes it works out well.  He thanked all building principals for all the work they do.


Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis welcomed Mr. Medaris and stated she enjoyed the Town Meeting the other night.  She congratulated the golf team on their sectional win and stated Belle Brown did a super job.  She wished good luck to band as they travel around. She thanked Dr. Gullion for all his work on the budget.


Valerie Alexander – Ms. Alexander welcomed Mr. Medaris.  She stated it’s nice to have everyone here in one spot.  She congratulated everyone on all the busy things they have going on this fall.  She stated Belle Brown’s round was awesome.


Lance Engle – Mr. Engle welcomed Mr. Medaris to the DelCom family.  He stated he had the opportunity to go to the band concert on Saturday.  He stated they knocked it out of the park and did a great job.  He stated those 95 kids work so hard and he gives a lot of credit to Mr. Enos and Ms. Crawford.  He stated they do a great job and all of them represent our school well.  He gave a shout-out to the Albany 5th graders who donated baskets to the first responders in Albany in recognition of 9/11.  He stated they were all very grateful for what they did and he thought that was fantastic by our 5th graders and teachers and showed what great community members they are.  He stated from the carnival, Homecoming, band competitions, golf sectionals, and kicking off sectional season; there are a lot of things going on at DelCom.  


John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board members.  He congratulated Mr. Medaris and welcomed him to the family.  He stated he is glad to have him.  He commented Belle Brown’s record is tough and for that to happen at that age is tremendous.  He congratulated all those girls.  He stated he’s been by and watched football practice and has seen the kids working hard.  He stated they are enjoying what they’re doing and is thankful we have a great place for them to be able to do that.  He stated that’s a testament to all the people we have working here who put the time and effort in to give our kids the opportunity to be able to do something they enjoy.  He stated it’s not always something on Friday or Saturday night, it can be Saturday afternoon or Thursday night and that means we have a lot of folks doing a lot of things to make sure our kids have great opportunities.  He gave a shout-out to our administrative team, the bus drivers, custodians, and all staff.  He stated it takes team effort to put this big show on from the fall through spring for these kids and it’s great to sit on this Board and see that happen from a little higher view.  He stated they aren’t out there every day, but their thoughts are and they appreciate what everyone does.



  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A Work Session will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. A regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, October 2, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.



  1. ADJOURNMENT


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Lance Engle and Board President, John Adams, adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.
