Paula Shockley, Albany Elementary parent, informed everyone she has 2 students in our corporation.  One of them is Savannah Shockley, a 5th grader at Albany Elementary, who is a little girl with Down syndrome.  She wanted to inform everyone about the AMBUCS bike.  Ms. Parker was going to pitch getting a bicycle for the elementary, junior high, and high schools because Savannah rides it around the community and does a great job.  Ms. Shockley came tonight because she’s been appointed to the Indiana Governor’s Council for people with disabilities.  Her assignment is to pitch inclusion with special needs kids to the school district.  She stated Savannah and all special needs kids need to be included with typical kids because that’s where they get the best education and where their outcomes are best.  This is where IEP’s come in and where they are going to start looking with these kids.  She stated they have the PATINS Project and Easterseals.  She informed everyone this weekend they will be at the Statehouse meeting with people all over the nation and you either have to be disabled yourself, or have a child with a disability.  She stated there are only 3 or 4 people across the state that have been chosen to be on the Governor’s Council and she has been chosen as one and it is a great honor to be a part of this project.  Ms. Shockley wants to partner with DelCom and be the gatekeeper for our schools.  She has information she can give to Dr. Larrabee and anyone else who would like it.

  8. LETTERS/NOTES

  9. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams thanked everyone for coming.  He thanked Ms. Shockley for sharing and he appreciates her voice.  He is really excited to get 850 new Chromebooks.  He stated there’s a lot of work and preparation from negotiating prices to Mr. Gordon getting the Chromebooks ready.  He thanked everyone for their work up front and behind the scenes for getting this implemented and advancing technology for our schools.  He stated sectional season is upon us and he appreciates all the hard work with the teams that are wrapping up their seasons.  He commented it’s always good to see students out there doing their best in extra-curricular activities.  Mr. Williams wished good luck on ISTEP preparation and he appreciates the hard work everyone is doing to get prepared for that.  He thanked Mr. Mann for heading up the Body Safety Program and for having passion to bring that to the school.  He stated it means a lot because it is all about the kids.

Tyce Stebbins – Mr. Stebbins thanked Mr. Pyle for the presentation on the progress of the athletic fields.  He stated to people reading the minutes, he encourages everybody to make sure they go through the proper avenues of whatever direction they need and make sure they address their issues and not somebody else’s issues and that’s what is most important.  He thanked Ms. Shockley for coming and stated it’s nice to hear from the community and he appreciates the passion she has.  He thanked her for her time on the Governor’s Council.  He stated everyone wears different hats and Dr. Gullion went to school to get into education and Mr. Stebbins is sure Dr. Gullion didn’t take a class on negotiating the price of computers.  He thanked Dr. Gullion and stated saving money on Chromebooks is a big deal and the extra time he put into it makes a big difference.  Mr. Stebbins thanked Mr. Shepherd and Target Field Trips for their donations.

Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis stated the bulletin board is very well done and congratulated them for serving the community with all the projects they had.  She congratulated Ms. Shockley and thanked her for bringing information to them because it’s always good to hear what’s out there.  She thanked Dr. Gullion and everyone else who tries to protect our money that we might not have later down the road.  Ms. Gillis thinks Mr. Mann’s idea about the Body Safety Program is an excellent idea and she doesn’t think we can do too much in that area.  She thanked Mr. Pyle for the athletic presentation and stated it’s great to see that happen.

John Adams – Mr. Adams thanked Ms. Shockley for her passion and being on the Governor’s Council.  He stated his daughter is going to Ball State to be in Special Ed because she has that same passion for kids.  He stated tomorrow he has to drop her off at the Statehouse with some of her best buddies because they are going to be pages down at the Senate.  She has to be there to help wrangle people around and hopefully learn what happens down there.  He stated since he’s been on the Board, he doesn’t know we’ve ever had a program like the Body Safety Program and he commends Mr. Mann for bringing it.  He said obviously people will understand we are bringing it for the right reasons.  We want to make sure our kids have what is necessary if they have something going on in their lives and it’s to protect those kids.  He thanked Mr. Pyle for the athletic presentation and hopes it will get completed before long.  Mr. Adams gave a shout-out to the wrestlers who are moving on and finishing up their seasons.  He stated Semi State is this weekend and wished those moving on well.  He hopes they can move on to State before our next Board Meeting so we can celebrate some state champions.

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for coming.  He thanked Ms. Shockley for sharing.  He stated it’s nice to get that kind of information and he appreciates having that come our way.  He stated the girls’ basketball season ended against Heritage.  They are one of the top girls’ programs and our girls’ fought hard, but if you asked the coach, he’d probably say their season didn’t go quite as well as he would have liked.  They had 11 wins and won 2 conference games which hasn’t been done in a long time and they need to be proud of the accomplishments they had this year.  Mr. Fox wished good luck to the boys’ and girls’ competing in diving regionals and sectionals.  He thanked Dr. Gullion for the hard work that went into the Chromebooks and Mr. Pyle for the athletic project presentation.  Mr. Fox looks forward to getting the Royerton project going and taking care of that area which is much needed.
