A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the request for Joey Gossett to attend the eLead Summer of Learning Conference to be held from June 1, 2022 through June 2, 2022 at Highland Middle School in Anderson, IN. The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

A motion was made by John Adams and seconded by Adam Williams to approve the request for Chris Conley, Joey Gossett, Cindy Kunda, Nancy Kunk, Lance Brand, and Sam Carlton to attend the RECN Retreat to be held from June 6, 2022 through June 7, 2022 in Indianapolis, IN. The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
Trent Fox – Mr. Fox appreciates everyone being here. He stated it’s Teacher Appreciation Week and gave a shout-out to all teachers for everything they’ve done. He appreciates donations and stated they go a long way, especially for what these were donated for. He stated they will help the schools and allow them to do a lot of things that possibly kids couldn’t do and it’s greatly appreciated. He stated for everyone to get through the rest of the year, we are almost there. He commented it’s been a good year and thinks things have gone pretty well and everyone will hopefully slide through the last 16 days and get to the final finish.
Adam Williams – Mr. Williams concurred with his fellow board member. He stated every week should be Teacher Appreciation Week. He appreciates beyond words what everyone does for our kids and going above and beyond with care and love. He stated it’s a noble profession and appreciates those who chose to do it and those who support it. He thanked Mr. Schmaltz for sharing about the Math Bowl and Integrity Awards information and Mr. Marshall for Academic Bowl at the middle school. He welcomed Mr. Roe and appreciates him choosing DelCom. He stated it’s a great place to be and appreciates people desiring to be a part of this community. He stated Dr. Brand receiving the Bell Grant is fantastic and donations are amazing. He appreciates everyone who works hard at extra-curricular things.
John Adams – Mr. Adams thanked everyone for being here. He informed Mr. Schmaltz it was good to see him and knows this could be the last meeting he attends. He stated Academic Bowls, Math Bowls, and Integrity Awards are some of the great things going on and then you throw in ILEARN and NWEA. He stated our kids are busy, which means our admistrators and teachers are busy, which also means our parents are very busy. He stated we have a lot of things going on since we are getting close to the end of the year. He thanked everyone for the time and effort and all they do to help our kids succeed. He stated 2nd in State for Science and 9th for Math is why everyone does what they do as professionals. He commented the $600 Bell Grant for Dr. Brand is awesome because any time you can get extra money it’s certainly grateful. He thanked those who are resigning and stated he hates to see some of them go. He welcomed all new employees and is glad they chose to be part of the DelCom family. He stated he’s sat on the Board a long time and it’s the first he’s heard of a Ball State Nursing Agreement. He stated that’s a neat asset to have and he’s sure we’ll all benefit with having student nurses come in and learn from our professional nurses. He stated he’s sat here before when we weren’t able to increase admin salaries. He is glad we can and appreciates all the hard work. He stated donations will get used for great things for our kids and it’s very much appreciated. He stated he’s been through a few Teacher Appreciation Weeks and all the hard work teachers put in doesn’t go unnoticed, especially since Covid. He stated that wasn’t the most pleasant thing to do, but they did it because of the professionals they are. He stated he has such great gratitude towards our teachers.
Jacob Case – Mr. Case congratulated all elementary schools for Math Bowl. He watched a few meets and stated it was cool seeing the kids up there answering pretty tough questions. He informed everyone Jacob Bilby won County in golf so that’s pretty exciting. He stated we have 16 more days of school left so try to finish strong and not just go through the motions. He informed everyone a student who graduated a few years ago joined the Coast Guard and was awarded a Letter of Accommodation from the Coast Guard. He stated she’s been out on boats and ships and is now being transferred to Michigan to pursue a different career in the Coast Guard. He sated kids either go to college, the work field, or some go to the military so we have kids who do a lot of great things.
Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked Ms. Joslin for her time and service at DelCom and what she has done for our kids. He stated its Teacher Appreciation Week and we have great teachers and instructional assistants who deserve all the credit in the world for helping us get through this year and teaching our kids. He stated they are doing it with their heads held high and he definitely appreciates the sacrifices they make. He thanked everyone for their donations and stated they are fantastic for our kids to experience different things. He informed everyone he attended the Albany Talent Show and the teachers and students knocked it out of the park. He stated it was a great event and a fun night for parents, kids, and teachers. He stated they not only celebrated their talent, but celebrated Mr. Schmaltz and it was great. He thanked Ms. Hood and Ms. Parker for putting that on. He also attended the Jazz concert last Friday and stated we have some amazing talent in our schools. He stated the kids had a great time and it sounded great. He stated Mr. Enos is doing a fantastic job and it’s starting to show what kind of talent we have when they put it all together. He stated his kids are glad ILEARN is over because it’s a tough week and thanked the teachers and students for getting through that. He stated NWEA testing is coming up so it’s another one to check off the list. He stated his calendar is pretty much full in May with everyone squeezing in extra-curricular activities and their evenings are jammed packed with different types of activities. He informed everyone to get through it, it’s going to be a fantastic May, and he looks forward to the rest of the year.

A regular meeting of the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.
