COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR
Scott Blakely, Eaton Elementary Principal, gave a shout-out to Mr. Stebbins and his crew for the new construction for a safer entrance. He stated last year they looked at roofing and classroom issues along with a new office area and they decided to do the office area. He stated it has worked out really well and is a safer entrance and easier for Ms. Burns to see the front door. He stated there is more space and it’s more user friendly for faculty and staff. He appreciates all the work and stated the construction crew was very professional and helped to make sure everything was going well. He thanked Eaton Church of God for giving goodie bags to every single student. He introduced Ms. Hill who is being recommended for an instructional assistant position.
Christopher Conley, Delta High School Principal, stated on October 20th they were able to have a Fall Induction for National Honor Society students. He informed everyone they had to do it in two different shifts to make sure they didn’t exceed capacity in the auditorium. He stated it was important because they didn’t get to do Spring Inductions because of being out of school. He stated Ms. Fox and Dr. Brand went above and beyond to plan it out and it worked very well. He stated it was a nice ceremony, not quite as moving as it normally is because they couldn’t have the current members with their candles there, but they were able to get the kids in who needed to get in. He informed everyone Nicki Southerland finished 9th at the State Cross Country Meet and stated that’s a great place to finish as a 9th grader. He thanked the Cross Country Boosters for the donations that will buy them a trailer for the program to get all their equipment in. He stated selfishly as a family, they really thank them because it makes it much easier on his children to have everything in one spot and be able to move it well. He informed everyone Walker Boyle and Brandon Jackson played a doubles team from Carmel in the Tennis State Championship. He stated they finished 2nd and represented us, as they always do, very well. He informed everyone ISTEP testing starts for seniors next week and they have a handful who need to pass ISTEP 10. He stated the juniors are not being retested at this point because the DOE suggested they not be. He stated they’ve sent communication out to parents of juniors informing them they will wait until the spring. He informed everyone the football team will travel to Marion Friday night to play in the Sectional Final and tickets will be sold at the gate. He stated Grant County is allowing 50% capacity, which allows them to have up to 2,000 people.

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
John Adams – Mr. Adams thanked everyone for coming. He stated the tennis doubles team gave it their best, they came up a little short, but what an honor for them to be able to do that. He stated what Nicki Southerland has done as a freshman, he can only imagine what the next three years will be like for her. He gave kudos to the football team for moving on to the Sectional Championship at Marion and wished them all the best. He welcomed all new employees. He thanked the Batio’s, DelCom Foundation, and Cross Country Boosters for the donations and stated it’s incredible how patrons step up in times of need to help and it’s greatly appreciated. He’s sure that piece of equipment will be a great asset to the cross country team. He asked everyone to please keep Mr. Gookins, who was a previous Superintendent, in their thoughts and prayers as their family is battling some things and he’s been very ill. He stated we have several in our DelCom community and faculty who are dealing with issues. He asked everyone to keep those families in their thoughts and prayers as well as we hope for good news for those who are battling certain things. He stated it’s important we make sure those folks get what they need and to work through things as they battle certain issues. He informed everyone Mr. Clevenger, who was a previous Board Member, passed away and to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as well.
Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked everyone for coming. He mentioned the successes of fall sports and sectional championships from cross country, state runner up for the two tennis players, and potential sectional championship for the football team. He also wanted to mention individual awards with Addie Chester receiving the Girls’ Soccer Best Team Player Award and Nicki Southerland getting 9th in the Cross Country State Final, which is an honor for both of them. He stated there are a lot of good things going on. He commented we’ve completed the first 9 weeks of school, which is a success in itself and we are in person and going strong for the second 9 weeks of the first semester.
Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for being here. He stated the weather is starting to change and daylight savings decided to cause it to be darker before they even start the meetings now. He asked everyone to be watchful when they’re out and about as it starts to get darker with the kids who are out waiting on buses. He stated as it gets colder they don’t tend to pay attention to what’s going on around them. He hopes as drivers we can do that stuff for them, keep an eye out, and keep kids safe. He congratulated Nicki Southerland for 9th place and stated that’s one heck of an accomplishment for a freshman. He stated there’s no pressure for her to repeat anything, but there is an opportunity she could do that. He looks forward to seeing three more solid years from her as she goes forward. He congratulated the tennis doubles team for runner up and stated that’s a heck of an accomplishment for them as well to be able to do that. He stated one of them comes back again for one more year so hopefully he can find another partner to be able to get back there and be successful again. He wished good luck to football going into sectionals and hopes this is the year they can get by Marion and do what they need to do to move on. He stated he typically goes to the National Honor Society Induction, but this year because of everything going on he couldn’t go. He knows there were a lot of inductees into that group and he’s very excited for all of them. He hopes they enjoy their accomplishments and can continue on throughout their high school education. He thanked the Eaton Church of God for the goodie bags given to students at Eaton. He stated that’s a heck of a thing to do, especially since they didn’t do their Trunk of Treat this year. He knows all the kids will appreciate it. He stated hearing about Eaton’s new entrance is great and he hopes to get up there and see it.
Adam Williams – Mr. Williams concurred with his fellow board members. He stated at the beginning of the school year they weren’t sure if they would have sports seasons so he’s excited for kids to have an opportunity to compete in things they really enjoy and love. He stated for those who hit their goals personally or as a team or those just getting out there and doing something collectively like that, he’s very thankful everyone had that opportunity. He hopes the non-athletic activities will be able to start back up soon and the other groups and clubs at our schools who work so hard to get kids involved in different things. He’s thankful we have survived up to this point and stated if people can continue to do their part and do everything they can not to send sick kids to school and not spread it, let’s slow this thing down and continue face-to-face education. He stated they’ve said many times the best case scenario for kids in this age group is face-to-face and without a doubt we have a great group of people who want to be here in front of them. He stated to do your part, do what you can, and be smart.
