  1. LETTERS/NOTES

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams thanked everyone for attending.  He appreciates the open comments from parents and stated the Board does listen and he appreciates them offering interesting questions.  He really appreciates citizens who get engaged, come to meetings, and talk about things like that.  He stated to keep your kids at home if they have any symptoms.  He knows it’s silly, he has kids who have allergies, but it’s a good reminder to take a day.  He said one day of school is important, but you can save so many others if it does turn out to be something more.  He knows it’s not easy, but if at possible and if there are any signs, give it a day and then make your decision after that and hopefully that will help reduce things over time. He stated fall sports are starting up and the girls’ golf team had a great win and it’s nice to see what they are doing.  He wished all sports teams well in their endeavors.  He commented kids are already getting tests so that’s exciting as a parent, not as a child and wished them well. He stated if there is anything we learned from Covid, it’s to appreciate every single day so study hard and don’t take anything for granted.  He hopes everyone stays healthy and does their best as we get through this craziness.

John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board member.  He stated girls’ golf county champs is awesome and a good way to start the season.  He thanked everyone for the hard work they are putting in getting school off to a start.  He thinks we are in a situation where we are going to fight some things, but he hopes over time that will get better.  He stated to the parents with concerns, it’s all duly noted.  He said at some point, the Board may have to make a different decision, but that will pan itself out.  He welcomed all new employees and stated that’s always a big deal because they’ve chosen DelCom for a reason and we are very thankful.  He thanked those who have left for their time and efforts and is sure they’ve affected our kids one way or another.  He stated he’s been on the Board a long time and this isn’t the only time Randy has donated and is very thankful he does as well as Hearts and Hands.  He commented we have plenty of kids who can use what was donated and thanked all those involved in doing that.

Lance Engle – Mr. Engle stated he’s grateful for donations. He stated Randy has done that several times and he appreciates him as a community member and also Al Holdren with Hearts and Hands.  He commented those were not only for our school, but county wide and a tremendous donation for kids who need backpacks and shoes.  He welcomed all new employees and thanked those leaving for their time and service to our corporation. He thanked all who came and spoke and stated he definitely appreciates it because it lets them know they have people who care about our students and how they go about things here at Delaware Community Schools

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for being here and those who were here earlier.  He informed everyone one of our bus drivers lost his spouse last Sunday and our thoughts and prayers are with them.  He stated they don’t always find out about those types of things because people are private, but wanted to let them know they are thinking of them during this time.  He stated the nice thing about the donation from Hearts and Hands was some of our sports teams went and helped to get everything ready or helped pass things out and that’s the neat and cool thing to him.  He stated to see the teams are giving back to the community is where it’s going to be helpful in the future for kids to grow and learn that we don’t get along in life without helping each other.  He hoped they wouldn’t have to talk about masks and was hoping for a clean school year, but knows those things are going to come up and they’ll deal with them as they come through.  He stated they will try to do what the guidance tells them and do it in the best interest of our kids because they learn better when they don’t have something on their face.  He commented kids are going to see each other and communicate better face to face when they don’t have that obstacle in front of them.  He stated they will try everything they can to do things they feel are right and keep everyone safe.
