MINUTES

  1. CALL TO ORDER

At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams, called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Greg Prince to amend the agenda, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. MINUTES

A motion was made by Greg Prince and seconded by Trent Fox to accept the minutes of the business meeting and executive session held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. FINANCE

  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Adam Williams to accept the list of vouchers, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR


Doug Marshall, Principal at Delta Middle School, thanked Ms. Decker, Ms. Shirk, and Ms. Jones for coordinating the class field trips this year because it’s a big undertaking to be able to do that.  He stated Delta Middle School hosted the Academic Team Super Bowl a few weeks ago. Ms. Decker, Mr. Thompson, Ms. Triplett, and Ms. Thomas lead the charge. He congratulated the students and stated they did fantastic by placing in each one of the areas.  He informed everyone choir is performing at 7:00 p.m. tonight and the band will be performing on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. He stated this week is Teacher Appreciation Week and wanted to thank all the many efforts the middle school teachers have initiated this year.  He’s excited to see the fruit it will produce in our students. Mr. Marshall thanked all teachers in our corporation.


Chris Conley, Principal at Delta High School, stated they have many events going on: county baseball against Cowan at 7:15 p.m., last night was the band concert, tomorrow night is choir concert, Friday night is Jazz Café, the girls’ softball team played in the county finals on Saturday, and lots of testing is being completed.  He stated they are doing NWEA this week with English and math. He stated for math, they have decided to do something different. They are testing particular subject matters. Mr. Conley is looking forward to being able to work through the data and have a chance to do something with it at the Blended Learning Summit. He stated they are beholding to the teachers for the success our students have.  He informed everyone he and Mr. Mann accompanied Cade Orchard when he was recognized as one of the top 40 students in the State. He commented that doesn’t happen by accident. Cade has really good parents, but he has had really good teachers who have helped him along the way. He informed everyone Graduation is June 2nd at Emens Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. He invited everyone to attend.  He stated they have 12 days of school to go, 8 days before finals, and the kids and teachers are working very hard.


Amy Lewman, Assistant Principal at Royerton Elementary School, stated it’s been a busy few weeks.  Last week they had 40 students participate in the Talent Show where the acts ranged from native dances to signing in their native languages.  She stated they have lots of talent with the young ladies and gentlemen in their building. She thanked Mr. Fant and Ms. Schwer for leading, organizing, and sponsoring that event.  She stated last week and this week they have their Wax Museum. 4th grade does an Indiana Wax Museum.  They choose someone from Indiana and model their speech and performance.  5th grade does a person of their choice.  She thanked Ms. Conti for organizing 5th grade and the 4th grade teachers for organizing theirs.  She stated tonight they had 60 students for the first annual Robotics Summit.  There are students from all three elementary buildings coming to do neat activities.  She thanked Mr. Parrott, the students, parents, and Eaton and Albany for supporting this program.  Ms. Lewman stated they are doing NWEA testing and there have been great conversations with students.  She stated the students are excited because they know they’ve grown, their teachers know, and they are excited to see just how much they have grown.

  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Greg Prince to uphold Case #001.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Mr. Mann informed the Board about Textbook Rental-(1st Reading).

  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve Adrianne Henderson, Music Teacher, to transfer from Albany/Eaton Elementary School to Royerton Elementary School, effective for the 2018-19 school year.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Classified Staff


A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items 1-2):


  1. Retirement of Judi Ringo, Food Service Manager at Delta Middle School, effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year.


  1. Retirement of Karen Hiatt, Food Service Cook at Delta High School, effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Greg Prince to approve the following (item 3):


  1. Resignation of Chelsie Taylor, Latchkey Assistant Supervisor, effective April 26, 2018.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


A motion was made by Greg Prince and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items 4-7):


  1. Recommendation to transfer Renee McAdams, Food Service Manager at Eaton Elementary School to Delta Middle School, effective       August 2, 2018.


  1. Recommendation to employ Jake Parsons as a Summer Mower effective May 9, 2018, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.


  1. Recommendation to employ Summer Blast employees, as presented.  


  1. Recommendation to employ Kyndall Pursley and Audrey Summers as Summer Blast Assistants, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the following (items 1-9):


  1. Karen Kirtley requests permission to attend the Indiana FCCLA Board Meeting to be held on May 4, 2018 at the Embassy Suites in Noblesville, IN.


  1. Lindsey Thompson, Julie Brown, and Greg Kile request permission to attend IN Canvas Users and Educators Meeting to be held on May 8, 2018 at the Center Grove Innovation Center in Greenwood, IN.


  1. Sheila Mercer requests permission to attend Computer Science Training for Librarians to be held from May 16, 2018 through           May 18, 2018 at Central Office.


  1. Lance Brand requests permission to attend the Human Anatomy and Physiology National Conference to be held from May 29, 2018 through May 30, 2018 at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH.

  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve the FCCLA Overnight Trips, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the Summer Blast 2018 Field Trips, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Greg Prince to approve Amy Lewman to transfer from Assistant Principal to Principal at Royerton Elementary School, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


A motion was made by Greg Prince and seconded by Trent Fox to approve Elizabeth Dennison as Corporation School Psychologist, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Awarding of Bid


  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Alice Gillis to approve OMS bids and award Mattcon as contractor for the Delta High School Renovation Project, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Mr. Mann informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Rebekah Weaver, DHS Jazz Band, requests permission to sell admission tickets to the Jazz Café on May 11, 2018 at Delta High School, as presented.  Proceeds go towards jazz festivals for the 2018-19 school year.


  1. Lynde Bratton, Delta Cheer, requests permission to sell detergent, trash bags, and cleaning supplies from May 14, 2018 through June 13, 2018, as presented.  Proceeds go towards camp, warm ups, shoes, etc.


  1. Tara Dragoo, DMS Cheer, requests permission to sell Concannon’s popcorn and pretzels from May 14, 2018 through June 4, 2018, as presented.  Proceeds go towards uniforms, crowd signs, awards, bows, etc.


  1. Assistant Superintendent


A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items 1-2):


  1. Use of Facilities:


  1. Ryan Parrott, requests permission to use Royerton Elementary classrooms on May 8, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. to hold a Robotics Summit, as presented.


  1. Heidi Knuckles, Delta Volleyball, requests permission to use the Delta High School gymnasiums from July 16, 2018 through July 18, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to hold a Junior High/Elementary Volleyball Camp, as presented.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Greg Prince to approve Enrollment Capacities and Priority Date for Transfer Applications (June 1), as presented. The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

  1. Request for Delta High School to accept a donation in the amount of $250.00 from Rural King, as presented.  


  1. Request for Delta High School to accept a donation in the amount of $200.00 from George Insurance Group, as presented.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Greg Prince – Mr. Prince stated it’s a busy time of year for everyone.  He stated it’s always good to see and hear about the participation going on in all the buildings.  He thanked Mr. Marshall, Mr. Conley, and Ms. Lewman. He knows their time gets exponentially shorter as each day progresses and appreciates the long hours. He appreciates the good reports and seeing a lot of good things.  He congratulated Ms. Lewman. He welcomed Ms. Dennison and is pleased to have her on board. He thinks she will help Ms. Larrabee out very much. He hopes everyone enjoys their field trips. He’s very much anticipating summer and everything coming up with the new project going on.  He hopes everyone is looking forward to that as much as he is.

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for coming.  He stated to enjoy the rest of the year.  He congratulated Ms. Lewman and Ms. Dennison and looks forward to great things coming out of both areas and helping others out as well.  He stated it is Teacher Appreciation Day and thanked those who are here and would like for everyone to pass along that they truly appreciate everything the teachers do each and every day.  


Adam Williams – Mr. Williams concurred with his fellow board members.

Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis congratulated the Academic Team, teachers, and helpers who helped them out.  She stated it had to require a lot of time and effort for them to do so well. She feels strongly about Teacher Appreciation Week and appreciates everyone’s hard work.  She congratulated Cade Orchard for Academic All Star and stated that’s quite an honor. Ms. Gillis congratulated Ms. Lewman and Ms. Dennison.

John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board members.  He stated we have a lot of things going on towards the end of the year with teams, testing, kids studying and getting ready for testing.  He appreciates the hard work put in and knows what work is going on right now to get this school year finished. He stated he couldn’t be more proud of where we are as a school corporation.  He stated for Teacher Appreciation Week, he thanks those who touch our kids one way or another and stated it’s greatly appreciated. He thanked the administrators who could come this evening.  He thanked all new employees for choosing DelCom. He congratulated Ms. Lewman and thanked her for the hard work she’s put in. Now she gets to jump one more step higher and he hopes she enjoys it.  He stated they had a case this evening on a young man and wanted to commend the family on the way they’ve presented themselves. He knows it’s not easy and wants them to know a lot of time and effort went into the discussion regarding that.  It may not always end up the way they want, but the process does work. He truly believes in the process and thanked them for being gracious. He stated there’s not a meeting that goes by where they aren’t accepting some sort of donation. He can’t thank everyone who donated enough and stated it all gets put to good use.  Mr. Adams informed everyone on May 25th we will have the Corporation Retirement Breakfast for our retirees.  He stated it’s a good time to celebrate with the folks who have retired from our corporation.  He thanked everyone for being here this evening and stated a lot of good things are going on and he knows we’ll finish strong.

  1. A regular meeting for the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.


  1. A Retirement Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, May 25, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at the Delta Middle School Cafetorium.
