COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR
Amy Lewman, Royerton Elementary Principal, informed everyone progress has been made on their new 1st grade classroom. She stated the steel structure is up and they are waiting on the door to come in. She thanked Mr. Stebbins for keeping them updated and Ms. Huddleston for being flexible and moving Summer Blast out of the library when they needed her to. She informed everyone she received a phone call this morning and they had another kindergartener move into the district. She stated they are now sitting at 127 kindergartener’s and will know more when registration opens in July. She thanked Ms. May and Ms. Selvey for helping to get the 5th grade computer’s ready to go so teachers can hit the ground running on the first day of school.
Haley Cross, Food Service Director, informed everyone they served 381,305 meals last year. She stated that is an average of 2,100 meals per day. She thanked her staff for getting all those meals out and pushing kids through the line with only 30 minutes apiece. She stated at the end of the school year they had a donation that took care of all of Albany’s student lunch debt. She posted about it on Facebook and that led to donations for the other four buildings and they now have zero student lunch debt, which is amazing. She informed everyone they focused on a new charge policy and were able to cut down on alternate meals served. She stated they served 97 less than what they did the year before so that was really good for them. She stated the worst part about their job is telling a kid they need money and possibly giving them an alternate meal so they were really happy they could cut down on this. She stated they have served 3,197 meals so far this summer. She informed everyone they have some summer projects with the Eaton gym getting painted, a new cooler at Eaton, and new lunch tables at Delta Middle School. She stated three staff members will be going to get ServSafe certified this month and in a few weeks she will be going to St. Louis to attend a school nutrition conference. She informed everyone she won a scholarship to go and they are expecting over 3,500 people to attend, 800 vendors, and 120 educational sessions she will be able to attend.
Tyce Stebbins, Director of Buildings & Grounds/Project Manager, informed everyone the Eaton gym was painted and it looks a lot cleaner and updated. He stated the asphalt maintenance throughout the corporation and a new sewer line at transportation have been completed. He stated a lot is going on with DHS Project 2018. Punch lists are tight and they are in the finishing stages of trying to clean and make sure things are working. He informed everyone the Delta Middle School gym floor has been stained and sealed and the Albany road was paved this afternoon. He stated they are working on putting up more lighting on the backside of the building and also adding some lighting in the front to help with safety. He stated the Royerton annex wall has been framed and they are waiting on the door. He hopes the roof for Royerton will be started soon. Mr. Stebbins thanked transportation, Ms. Lewman’s staff, and the Summer Blast staff for helping to make it a safe environment when they begin to work on the roof.
