At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams, called the meeting to order.

MINUTES
A motion was made by Greg Prince and seconded by Trent Fox to accept the minutes of the business meeting and executive session held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR
Amy Lewman, Principal at Royerton Elementary School, stated they have had a great start to the school year. She has 626 students today and tomorrow with a new student coming in, she will have 627. She stated busing and transportation drop off in the morning has been fantastic. She thanked Mr. Mann for making sure all has been well. They didn’t have any traffic on State Road 3 or Royerton Road. She complimented the transportation department, parents, and all who have helped. She informed everyone they changed the car pick-up procedure. They are not dismissing students until 2:45 p.m. this year which is a huge change and parents have embraced it. They have asked parents not to line up until 2:15 p.m. She stated it’s been smooth and she credits all who have worked hard to make this school year start off great. Ms. Lewman stated everyone has been patient and kind and it’s been a great start.
Doug Marshall, Principal at Delta Middle School, stated it was great to see kids this week. He said the 6th graders have transitioned well and it’s been a stellar start to the school year. He’s having a lot of fun meeting new students and seeing former ones as well. He complimented transportation for a great start and teachers and staff at the middle school for going above and beyond in helping the kids get acclimated to the building. He stated Mr. Stebbins oversaw the painting of the gymnasium and it looks great. He gave a shout-out to everyone involved in Chromebook distribution. It went well and the last two days have went seamlessly. He stated a lot of time and effort went into that and to be able to launch those and see it happen is great. Mr. Marshall thanked everyone who helped make the start of the year successful.
Tyce Stebbins, Director of Buildings and Grounds/Project Manager, stated it was scary last weekend, but they got through it and the special needs classroom was done on time. He stated construction on the inside at the high school is going well. They’ve had a lot of hiccups, but everything is up and going now and everyone has worked well through it. He thanked Mr. Gard and his technology staff. When they were giving out Chromebooks, they had to spend every extra minute to fight some fires. He stated the custodial staff at the high school is doing a great job and if you see any of them, make sure you tell them thanks. Mr. Stebbins thinks going with the CMU walls was a great decision because it’s cutting down on sound throughout the building and making a big difference. He stated outside construction is going well, it’s fully functional and allows us to do busing the way we want.
Reece Mann, Superintendent, recognized Dr. Gullion for going through the Business Manager Certification process through IASBO. He thanked the board for allowing Dr. Gullion to attend classes. Mr. Mann congratulated Dr. Gullion on his certification.

Carole Cardemon, Royerton PTO, requests permission to collect donations from August 2018 through March 2019, as presented. Proceeds go towards playground improvements and to assist the educational environment at RES.

Curt Howard, Metro Football, requests permission to use the Royerton Elementary property and Delta High School football field from August 1, 2018 through November 10, 2018 to hold Metro Football League, as presented.

Barbara Broyles, Eden Church Tutoring and Mentoring Outreach, requests permission to use Eaton Elementary on September 10, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to hold tutoring/mentoring as presented.

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
Greg Prince – Mr. Prince thanked everyone for coming. He had equally good reports at home on how well the first day went. He gave accolades to everyone and can’t express his appreciation to all staff on getting everything off to an exemplary start. He is very happy for Mr. Kile getting the Monsanto Grant. He stated its great knowing the Foundation can step up and compliment that and a little PR goes a long way which is always good. He stated we’ve had great comments on busing and doesn’t know if we’ve ever had that seamless of a first day so accolades to Ms. Kemper. He congratulated Dr. Gullion on his certification. He heard great comments on Chromebook roll out and knows some parents were apprehensive about it, but as long as it stays up, we are in good shape. Mr. Prince is glad we can do Professional Development Days again this year. He was glad he could attend Opening Day. He stated it means a lot for him to get that much talent in a room and it’s humbling for him to look out and see the DelCom family in one place at one time.
Trent Fox – Mr. Fox congratulated all 4-H kids who were able to show this past July and those who went on to the state fair. He stated that’s a big undertaking and something they have to do for at least 4-5 months to get the animals ready to go. He stated the donation of 300 backpacks from Anthem is huge. He’s glad they were willing to do that and help Albany Elementary. He stated it’s great for the high school to get a $277 donation from Red Brands. They can use that to do things they couldn’t have done otherwise. He stated it sounds like we’ve had a good start. He hopes we will continue to build upon that and keep rolling in a positive direction. He hopes everyone can settle down, get going, and enjoy this year as we move on.
Adam Williams – Mr. Williams stated getting back to school for the start of the school year is a lot of work and we tend to forget the small things everyone is doing to get ready. There are a lot of moving parts in a short amount of time. He stated we have condensed schedules that seem to exist now due to the mandated number of instructional days. It gives less time in the summer to get things ready. He appreciates everyone continuing to adjust and doing excellent work in a shorter time period. He appreciates the enthusiasm everyone has to get back into the swing of things. He stated his kids aren’t happy to be back in school, but a routine is great and they are surrounded by people who take care of them and he appreciates that. He stated the first thing he thought of when driving by Royerton was that there weren’t any cars out on State Road 3. He stated it’s a great problem to have 627 kids in your building and he appreciates Ms. Lewman being flexible and finding a way to make it work.
Alice Gillis – Ms. Gillis congratulated Mr. Kile. She’s happy to see the Monsanto Grant and for the Foundation to match that. She’s sure the robotics kids will be tickled. She thanked Ms. Lewman for her report and is glad she has lots of kids. Ms. Gillis thinks we should coin Mr. Marshall’s term for a stellar start. She thanked Mr. Stebbins for his report and congratulated Dr. Gullion on his certification. She thanked Mr. Seidner and thinks he’s happy to come back. She welcomed Ms. Crouch all new hires. She thanked Cody Brelage, Delta High School senior, for singing the National Anthem at the fair this year. Ms. Gillis congratulated all the kids who showed projects at the fair and informed everyone we have several at the state fair this week. She stated it’s a lot of hard work, they spend many days and months on projects, and do a super job.
John Adams – Mr. Adams concurred with his fellow board members. He thought Opening Day was great. He stated just because we’ve been out for the summer doesn’t mean we’ve been out for the summer. There are a lot of things going on by those who are involved in getting our buildings ready to go. He stated at the end of the school year we get kids out the door and then we have people coming in to get things done. He stated there is definitely a lot going on and there’s been tremendous effort by everyone helping behind the scenes. Mr. Adams appreciates it and stated it helps with a stellar start. He can’t say enough about all the hard work in the summer to get buildings prepared, curriculum done, Chromebooks distributed, etc. He had a patron ask about Chromebooks and why we were distributing now when other schools have had them for a while. He doesn’t think people understand there’s a lot of moving parts. You can’t just throw Chromebooks into a building and expect all of them to work the way they’re supposed to. He stated not only that, we wanted to know what we were going to do with them before we got them. Our group spent time and effort to make sure we had all our t’s crossed and i’s dotted. He stated we knew if we were going to invest in this, we wanted it to work and be a successful program. He stated this was a big undertaking and he’s glad it’s going the way it should. Mr. Adams can’t say enough to Mr. Gard and crew for making sure Chromebooks are up and running with the distribution. He stated Ms. Kemper was Transportation Director long ago and how well the first day went is a tribute to her. He stated a few of them have sat here when the first day didn’t go so well and to have buses pretty much run on time from day one is a great accomplishment. Transportation deserves all the accolades for what they’ve accomplished. Mr. Adams stated donations are great to get from a business wanting to help educate our kids.
